Our purpose
Michael and Rebecca were both attracted to the practice of yoga for different reasons. Yoga brought them together as a couple, and inspired their individual practices and teaching journeys. Michael and Rebecca believe that their own different backgrounds, physical abilities, and limitations give them a unique perspective when working as a team. As a result Mala Yoga Co. was formed in an effort to share this transformative practice with others.
michael Ferguson
Michael is a 200-hour certified yoga teacher and has completed numerous specialized trainings in Ashtanga Vinyasa. Michael has a dedicated Ashtanga practice himself, valuing Ashtanga’s emphasis on linking the breath to movement and the exploration of sthira and sukha (balancing ease with effort). Believing in the power of being a student first himself, Michael has learned from numerous Authorized Ashtanga teachers. He strives to integrate his learned knowledge along with his own personal practice and experience into his classes. Michael’s classes are structured with the beginner and experienced practitioner in mind. In his classes, you can expect a strong emphasis on breath, alignment, and tradition. You will leave Michael’s classes feeling grounded, and with a sense of growth and mental clarity that you can carry with you off of your mat and until your next practice.
Rebecca Ferguson
Rebecca is a 200-hour certified yoga teacher. Rebecca has a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and holds a specific interest in somatic psychology, or the study of how the body stores experiences. As a dedicated Ashtanga yoga practitioner herself, Rebecca’s classes are intentional, carefully sequenced, and often traditionally inspired. In every class, Rebecca strives to create an open and accepting environment for all different types of practitioners. You can expected to leave Rebecca’s class feeling balanced, grounded, refreshed, and inspired to learn more.
